LAS VEGAS (AP) — Glitter Gulch gives way to the newest and tallest building in downtown Las Vegas when Circa Resort & Casino opens early Wednesday, offering what owner Derek Stevens calls the world’s largest sports betting center and a six-pool rooftop swimming stadium he expects will attract thousands of people a day.

The D Las Vegas From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The D Las Vegas Casino Hotel (formerly Fitzgeralds) is a 34-story, 638-room hotel and casino in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, owned and operated by Derek and Greg Stevens. The D Las Vegas also consists of a dinner theater called Showroom at the D. This week, Derek Stevens gave an update on Circa Resort & Casino. This new property is one of the biggest and most impressive ever built downtown. It’s expected to draw in a huge number of tourists once it’s finally opened. Here’s what we’ve just learned about this massive casino-resort. Construction Continues on Downtown LV’s Circa. Derek Stevens, CEO of Circa Resort, joins 'Squawk Alley' to discuss reopening casinos in Vegas and elsewhere.

Doors open at 12:01 a.m. to adults 21 and older, with facial coverings and temperature scans required due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Circa is the first new property to open downtown since the Sundance in 1980. That became Fitzgeralds, which Stevens and Circa co-owner, brother Greg Stevens, bought in 2011 and renamed D Las Vegas. The brothers also own the Golden Gate, which opened in 1906.

Circa construction took 20 months. Stevens declines to say what it cost because it’s privately owned. He said it’ll employ about 1,500 people.

The casino is geared for sports fans, while Stadium Swim aims to attract ticket-buying sun-seekers.

The registration area for the 777-room hotel features the restored original neon “Vegas Vickie” sign the Stevens brothers acquired along with the old “Topless Girls of Glitter Gulch” property on Fremont Street.

A pedestrian walkway crosses Main Street to an eight-story parking structure with almost 1,000 vehicle spaces that Stevens dubbed Garage Mahal.

Circa Las Vegas in the News

The Casino File: Circa opens adults-only resort/sportsbook in Las Vegas by Chuck Darrow of Bettors Insider

It’s called Circa, but Las Vegas’ newest pleasure dome could have been called ‘Surprise.’ That’s because it’s a surprise that anyone would open a new casino-hotel in Sin City given the continuing devastation being wrought by COVID-19 on the desert gambling mecca. And it’s even more of a surprise that Circa isn’t on the glittering boulevard of dreams known as the Strip, but smack-dab in the middle of what is called Downtown—a.k.a. Glitter Gulch, the cradle of the city’s gambling empire.

Las Vegas Advisor: Adults-only Circa resort opens downtown by Anthony Curtis of Honolulu Star-Advisor

“Circa, the 1.25-million-square-foot, Strip-style downtown adults-only (21 and over) megaresort opened as promised on Oct. 28, with a four-block line of guests greeted by Vegas Vickie in the lobby. The resort features what’s being touted as the “world’s largest sports book,” a “pool amphitheater” that features its own giant screen for airing sports, and several restaurants and bars, including the longest bar in Las Vegas on the main floor. Almost overlooked among the amenities is the giant Garage Mahal, with just under 1,000 parking spaces. With just a few exceptions, nearly the entire resort is complete and open to the public. Circa is the first casino built downtown from the ground up in 40 years.

Plaza Casino Plans New Year’s Eve Fireworks Show in Las Vegas by Larry Henry of Casino.org

In late September, Jossel staged a fireworks test run at the Plaza. Jossel joined Las Vegas casino executive Derek Stevens on a rooftop at the then-unopened Circa Resort to watch the Saturday night fireworks test. Stevens, who owns Circa and two other hotel-casinos on Fremont Street, tweeted the event with a three-minute video.

It’s Zowie Bowie, Circa and CBS for New Year’s Eve by John Katsilometes of Las Vegas Review-Journal

“Zowie Bowie has survived nearly 15 years in Las Vegas for a reason. He brings the party. This quality is evident once more as Chris Phillips, founder of the long-running Las Vegas stage act, hosts a New Year’s Eve live broadcast from Circa’s Stadium Swim. Phillips is partnering with Las Vegas CBS affiliate KLAS Channel 8 for a regional New Year’s Eve telecast produced by Nexstar Media Group, which owns stations in 13 Western markets. The Zowie Bowie front man is hosting the party and online telethon from 10:30 p.m. through the countdown from Stadium Swim.

The casino and most of the amenities at Circa Resort and Casino in Las Vegas just opened in late October. It’s rare that any business opens and impresses as much as the hype. Circa does that and then some. The property will be fully complete when the hotel opens in late December. Circa is a different property for the downtown Las Vegas market. To start, the property is the first new casino build from the ground up in downtown Las Vegas since 1980. Circa is the second tallest building in this part of town. The entire property occupies an entire city block of the Fremont Street Experience.

Vegas artist makes life-sized Fleury statue out of plastic blocks by Pat Pickens of NHL.com

A Las Vegas-based artist created a life-sized plastic brick statue of the Vegas Golden Knights goalie, which is on display at the Circa Resort and Casino. Chris Ihle, who moved to Las Vegas from Ames, Iowa two years ago, was asked by casino owner Derek Stevens to complete the Fleury statue, which was inspired by his now-famous Superman save on Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nic Petan on Nov. 19, as part of his recently opened gallery on the second floor of the brand-new Circa casino.
